What you get when you hire a photo organizer
As a professional photo organizer, one question I get asked over and over is "How can you organize OTHER people's photos?"
Hiring a professional photo manager is a new concept. 15-20 years ago when we were all investing in our first digital cameras, most people wouldn't have even thought of hiring someone to help them organize their photos. As with most things, times have changed. People are overwhelmed and they need help.
Here are the photo challenges we hear about most...
Challenge 1: digital photos...
My phone is blowing up with so many photos
My photos are all over the place and I can’t find anything
There are so many online and software options for managing my photos, which is the ‘right’ one?
I’m so afraid that my technology is going to fail and I’ll lose everything
Challenge 2: printed photos (both inherited and accumulated)...
My parents gave me a box of old family photos and I don’t even know where to start. How can I share them with others?
I want less stuff. How do I preserve my printed photos but not have the bulk of the boxes and albums?
I have all these old albums, how do I decide what to keep? Can I throw away photos?
I want to share our family photos with my grown children, what’s the best way to do that?
Challenge 3: time...life is busy and time is precious
Do any of these sound familiar?
Our job is to help our clients solve these problems. Hiring a photo organizing professional isn’t unlike hiring a plumber or an interior decorator. We provide:
the knowledge and expertise. We significantly reduce the amount of time a project takes because of both our technical knowledge and the efficiency of the processes that we use. We have invested many hours in training and certification. We also belong to an international network of other Photo Organizing professionals and regularly interact with industry professionals to learn about the latest products and industry trends.
the tools. We have invested significantly in computers, software, scanners, and other tools that were created specifically to help you organize, preserve and share your photos.
the passion. We do this job because we LOVE touching hearts every. single. day.
Here is how the process works...
we have a free 15-minute phone chat where you tell us about your photos. If we decide to work together…
we send you a 'to-do' list...nothing hard. It mostly involves taking inventory of your collection and starting to gather your stuff.
we meet for an assessment session. This is most often done via Zoom because we work with clients that live all over the country. During the first part of the session, we get to know each other. We ask you about your family, your photos, and your photo goals. Often during this session, we remotely access your computer and get started.
we get to work. On digital projects, once we’ve gathered your memories, Capture Your Photos takes it from there consolidating, deduplicating, and organizing your photos. On printed photo projects, we can teach you our sorting process, work side-by-side, or you can deliver the boxes to us and we’ll take care of it all, including scanning.
So to answer the question, “How can you organize other people’s photos?”...we get to know you and your family and use the tools and knowledge that we’ve built through years of experience.
The goodness in this work is that we all have similar themes in our lives (family, friends, holidays, travel, etc.), and if you ask the right questions and have a good process, not only can we organize other people's photos, but we can provide peace of mind, helping families build relationships and tell stories along the way.
