3 new apps for organizing and sharing photos and memories

As a professional photo manager, I’m always on the lookout for new photo apps that will make my clients’ lives easier, as well as enhance their ability to enjoy, share, and preserve their photos and memories.

At the 2023 TPM Photo Manager’s conference, these 3 apps stood out. Keep in mind that all of these apps are hot off the presses, so they aren’t perfect yet and bugs are still being worked out, but I’m excited about the possibilities.

1. PROJECTOR APP

The projector app is basically Netflix for your home movies. Imagine having an app available on your tv that when you choose it (just like you select Netflix), it gives you the ability to stream your personal videos, such as your old home movies, your latest phone videos, or slideshows you’ve created. It makes bringing these memories back into your life so easy, accessible, and fun!

Currently, in order to use the app on your smart tv, you need an Amazon Fire TV, an Apple TV (must have the Apple TV, not just the streaming service), a Roku device, or Android TV devices. You can also use the app on your smartphone, computer, or tablet.

The sharing capability is also very cool. By sharing videos from your account, grandma and grandpa can see the videos you think they’d love, as long as they have one of the devices required. You can even set up playlists for them.

The current cost is only $29.95 a year, so very reasonable.

2. GOODONES APP

One of my clients’ biggest challenges is that they are overwhelmed with the number of photos they have. We all have great intentions when it comes to deleting and cleaning up our photos, but we’re not always very good at it. The new GoodOnes app turns culling your photos into a game by giving you bite sized ‘batches’ at a time to work on, and celebrating you when you accomplish a task. Essentially, it ‘gamifies’ sorting and culling your digital photos, by helping you to identify your ‘best’ photos, your ‘trash’, and the ‘rest’.

It works with iCloud and Google Photos, leaving the photos where they are, but creating folders of curated photos within those database applications. If you are a person that responds to a challenge or enjoys a game, this is a good app for you. I love that if I have a few minutes in the line at the grocery store, I can curate a batch of photos.

Currently the app is free and can be found in your app store.

3. ARTIFCTS

I often work with families who are in the midst of downsizing. In addition to boxes of photos, they often have boxes of memorabilia or family heirlooms, such as furniture, military service awards, or other objects. Artifcts provides a digital way to organize and document these items, as well as capture the meaning and stories behind them.

I firmly believe that if you’re going to keep stuff, you should honor it. This is one way to do it.

In addition to passing on the stories, Artifcts can help families be really clear for wills, insurance, and you can even use it for light inventories for moves and storage. Entries are taggable, searchable, shareable, and downloadable.

The founders of Artifcts are former CIA agents and are passionate not only about helping you preserve your family history, but about keeping it safe.

Artifcts is a membership community with a reasonable annual fee.
